Getting rid of ivy

We have some fairly feral ivy growing up a sunny wall. The stems are like tree trunks.

Is it practical to get rid of it or should I put up with it?

Cut the stems then pour neat Jeyes Fluid onto the stumps. It worked on a tree we needed rid of.

Maybe consider cutting back rather than getting rid? Or replacing straight away with another evergreen climber? A couple of reasons: firstly, ivy is a great habitat for all kinds of creatures; secondly, it is likely to leave a right mess on your wall - it tends to really dig into the bricks; and thirdly, it might be the thing holding up the wall!!

Oh god, you're right. I can't face dealing with a crumbling wall.

if you want to leave it and not have a crumbling wall just keep it clipped to where you want it to be - it could look really lovely if you keep control of it.
