Last year a friend of mine gave me beautiful hanging baskets. They ended up really quite spectacular and I imagine to buy in the shops would have been very expensive...hence me attempting to recreate them this year.

Apart from petunias, does anyone recognise any of the flowers? There are also some non-blooming flowers too. There is ivy but do I just get bog standard ivy?

Also, I'm thinking that early may would be a good time to get them done. Does that sound about right or is it a little early?

Thanks in advance!

The pink in the middle are geraniums and the lighter pink at the front are impatiens known as busy lizzies I think. They look lovely

Yellow are petunias
Upright pink are pelargoniums
Ivy is just ivy
Lilac are impatiens

May onwards is ok if you're in a warmer spot and there's no chance of a frost. Garden centres usually say the end of May but they err on the side of caution, I think.

Thank you!

They are in a sunny position and I am in the south but maybe it might be best to wait until mid may.

Anyone with any ideas what the non-flowering plants are?

Trailing one with varigated leaves on the left is probably nepeta.

Go to the garden centre and look at the minipots they have already got out for baskets. Take the photo with you and have a go at matching the plants to what's there.
