Does anyone use a lawn aerator? Is it any good?

There are all sorts of different ones:

Easiest is a big fork, and 'waggle' it about.

There are various 'hollow tine' aerators, that you stand on like a fork.

And there are mechanical ones, that will be expensive and only for large lawns.

We used a Wolf hollow tine one, which was effective, but only has two spikes. The Wolf wheeled scarifier (that they now call a moss remover) is good for getting out thatch and debris.
