Any recommendations please?

Starting a garden from scratch. Must fill big empty plot. Cottage style - plenty of roses and clematis. And bulbs. Love bulbs.

I've ordered a David Austin catalogue after reading about it on here. Where to next?

Suttons is one I know, but Google for all the others. And 'Crocus' is good, but not the cheapest.

Oh yes, and Sarah Raven is interesting.

visit local gardens set a budget make a plan make a wish list and try and stick to it otherwise it is easy to spend a lot of money

Thank you for your replies. I have slowly been receiving my catalogues in the post this last week - makes good reading. Definitely need to set a budget as there's so much choice!

My personal advice would be to design it properly and fill it slowly. Buy the largest specimens that add the structure and get those in first, and then infill the medium and small plants. Or - with your design in mind, divide it into smaller spaces and do one space at a time. The space can be filled easily whilst waiting with annual wildflowers and some veg.

Unless you are completely time and money rich, of course.

Personally I like to do my research and get rarer varieties and specimens, I have happily waited years for plants I want just keeping the space ready for them when I find them.

Burncoose and Hardy's Cottage Garden Plants are two of my favourites.
