Anyone grown an avocado?

My DD2 has planted an avocado stone which seems to be thriving on the windowsill - its currently around 30cm tall and in a 15cm diameter pot.

We live in a warmer climate than UK (temperate/sub tropical) so can put it outside if needs be... but when should I repot? And realistically, are we ever likely to see anything beyond some leaves?!

I've grown loads, but never got them past a stick with a few leaves for some reason. They got to around a couple of feet high then died.

Thank you both. I think I need to manage expectations as far as actually producing an edible avocado is concerned, but hopefully we can grow it a bit more. Will pinch out the top leaves and see what happens!
