How do I get a lovely lawn?

I have a North facing garden that gets some sun and has a very patchy weedy lawn (we moved here 18 months ago). It also comes complete with a big patch of mud where the trampoline was in the summer, it's been taken down now.

I know nothing about lawns, but clearly it needs to be seeded when do I do this, what kind of seed do I use? What else do I do to get a naice lawn rather than this scrappy patch.

there are seeds for all sorts of grounds.
have a look in a big garden centre.
ideally you need to prepare the ground by airing (poking holes into the ground with a rake or similar) then sowing, flattening...
if you do leave big items on it, move them regularly to give the lawn a chance to recover.

Have a look into a lawn company - they are really not expensive. We have a company come round called green fingers. He comes round 4 times a year (every time the seasons change) and treats the grass with feed or weed killer or whatever it needs. It only costs about £25 pounds for each visit and I would honestly recommend it. I tried buying grass seeds etc and you can end up spending a fortune. Just get the pro's round like I said the cost is low and well worth it.

I'll look into a lawn company, I've had flyers through the door, but always thought they were very expensive. Thanks you.
