Strimmer?

Can you recommend me a strimmer for an above average sized garden? I would probably prefer a petrol model or one which can be charged (and hold it's charge for a decent amount of time). I am not very big so don't really want a heavy one but am stuck for ideas.....

What is your budget and what is the size of you garden and what do you have to strim down?

Budget around £150, garden size around 100 x 100 and mainly want to strim edges and weeds growing through patio and pathways!

Any of those would be ok for you.

Unless you are 'organic', weeds can be painted with systemic killer mixed in cheap wallpaper paste. Edges of lawns can be done with long-handled edging shears.

Bosch little edging trimmer is good if you are a hands-and-knees edger; you can also get an extension pole for it that's great for longer stretches. But the best thing to keep your edges sharp is everedge edging - expensive but worth the investment.

I have a Stihl FSA 65 rechargeable cordless strimmer. I bloody love it. I'm quite small and find petrol ones too heavy and unwieldy; the Stihl is lightweight and nifty and yet just as powerful as many petrol models. Its charge lasts about as long as I can strim before I need a break, so that works just fine.

It's not cheap because you have to buy the battery and charger in addition to the strimmer, however these can be used with other machines from the range - I also have the hedge cutter. Worth the investment.

We have lots of grass - lawn over 3 levels, the largest area with path all the way around and a lawn in the front garden too. I have used edging shears and yes, they work, but my arms felt like they were falling off for several days afterwards. Strimmer all the way!

You can get a decent cordless Black+Decker for about $100. That should be more than enough for a medium-sized area. There's some specific info one should be aware of before choosing a good strimmer. Just be sure to check out a few reviews before going in for the buy.
