We live in a third floor ex-local authority flat and I'm desperate for a little bit of nature & colour outside the front door! Don't think we're even allowed things on the walkway, but there's a clear space for a trough which won't trip anyone up, so I'm going to experiment... I have quite a few house plants that I've managed to keep alive & I'm feeling brave.

If I were to plant up a trough container now (I know it's a bit late) do you think I'd have any luck with say, winter pansies and hellebores? What else could I either plant from scratch or repot outside now? It's a sheltered spot that would get afternoon and evening sun if sunny, especially now it's low in the sky.

I have garden envy...

Hi Winter pansies would definitely work, you could also add ivy or a tiny conifer.

good luck
