Did these larvae kill my succulent?

I have built a rockery and planted some succulents. One of them died strangely.
A few weeks later I was digging in the same spot and noticed some small white oval larvae/ maggot like creatures. What are they and did they kill my succulent? Pretty sure they are not maggots as are smaller and more oval.

How do I get rid?

Would it be worth putting a sample in a screw-top jar and taking to your local garden centre?

They might have someone who will know what the problem is, and can advise.

Were they C shaped with a dark head? If so, they are probably vine weevil larvae which will feed on roots below soil level, and quickly kill plants. Which succulents did you plant - Sempervivums?

Yes sempervivum a. I attacked them with some boiling salted water. However, I think they might be flea larvae. My cat has brought fleas into our house and I hear they live in the garden too. Flea larvae are white and 6mm long... Rather like these! No dark head either!
