Please recommend an 'outdoor flower'

It's my uncle's birthday tomorrow. He's terminally ill (this is likely to be his last birthday) and has asked for an outdoor flowering plant.

I've kind of been in denial about it and now have run out of time. I'm also a hopeless gardener and haven't a clue what to get. I can't afford too much but want to get something nice (preferably that I can order online for delivery tomorrow..Hmm)

Any ideas?

How about a lovely, fragrant patio rose? Most supermarkets sell them in the cut and potted flower section.
Very sorry to hear about your uncle's illness, I hope he has a very lovely birthday.

At this time of year, maybe a fuschia? They flower into the autumn. Not sure what you can get online for quick delivery though.

How soon do cyclamen come into flower? I've lost my UK bearings on this, though they're a winter flower here in Australia, too.

A massed tub of the big ones looks good, and the smaller ones have the advantage of fragrance, too.

Thanks all. I popped to B&Q and got a pot of bright red cyclamen. Very pretty.
