Blackberries

I'm looking for some tips for introducing blackberries to my garden!

I've been fortunate to live in homes with well established blackberry bushes until now. I have barely any experience of growing fruit bushes Grin

When is the best time to put new plants in? Do I need to wait until Spring 2015? Does that mean waiting until 2016 for fruit?!

Any help appreciated Smile

You can buy thorn free varieties - perfect for a garden. You can buy online and plant when they are dormant; I think they come with bare roots. If you order now they'll probably be delivered late autumn for planting.

on that subject the wild ones are starting to ripen in the hedgerows, I picked some earlier this week which is my earliest ever!

Aldi have soe fruit bushes coming up --> www.aldi.co.uk/en/specialbuys/thursday-7th-august/product-detail/ps/p/fruit-collection-2/

I think I might buy a few bits. I've not bought plants from Aldi before, but my friend seems to do so a lot, and says that her stuff thrives, so might give it a bash. My fruit this year has been a disappointment, so I am really starting from scratch.

I think that as they are probably container-grown, that they can be planted most times - is that right does anyone know?
