Fruit tree suppliers?

I'm planning on planting an apple tree in our garden this autumn and am starting to prepare the space. I specifically want to get a tree that's grafted onto semi dwarfing rootstock as our garden is quite small. Can anyone recommend a good mail order supplier?

my mum got all her fruit trees from Waterperry gardens but she would go there to pick them herself (even from scotland!).

Thanks. I've had a quick look at Crocus and they do have some tres on the rootstock I was thinking of. I had assumed that I should go to a specialist tree supplier rather than a general one. Is the quality of their plants good?

We have bought quite a lot from them, and have always been pleased with their quality. In fact we bought an apple tree earlier in the year and its thriving. I came across them via The Guardian - I think they provide plants for some of the gardens at Chelsea Flower Show.

I bought trees from ashridge and was very satisfied with them.

Their smallest size is a maiden, next up is a bush size, the website does not mention semi-dwarf as such. The website has been redesigned and does not give a number for the rootstocks, but it is very informative and easy to read.

I've bought fruit trees from www.pomonafruits.co.uk/ before and been very happy.

I have nothing useful to contribute other than we ordered two dwarf apple trees - Granny Smith and an Aussie Russet several weeks ago, and just got the email they'll be shipped over from Tasmania first week in August.

We are unbearably thrilled.

It's vital to check whether they need a pollinator.

We're in London do I think most varieties should grow here.

I also need to think about pollinators. Or do I? We're in quite a dense area of terraced houses. I imagine other people have apple trees fairly close by but I can't be sure and obviously don't know about varieties. How close do the appropriate pollinators need to be?

I got mine from Keepers. It was very reasonably priced and they are brilliant at helping you choose a tree if you're not sure which one you want.

The tree suppliers should, on their website, say which trees are self-fertile, and which need pollinators, and which kind.
