Present for a teacher

I have decided to buy a plant for my yr 1 dd's teacher. She runs gardening club so she must like gardens! What plant would you like to receive if you were her?

Can't go wrong with a clematis.

I have some lovely roses that my class bought me a few years ago. I always think of that year group when they come into flower.

Pinks (dianthus) in a pot are flowering at the moment and are cheap in small pots at garden centres. Violets are nice, and long flowering and can be put on indoor windowsills: you can get a few in a bedding tray for a fiver and and pot them up separately for each teacher. Lavender is nice and in flower now. Small alpines are cheap and sweet to give. Often 1.50 or similar for a little plant. You could give a little cactus or a little chilli plant to a male teacher though they like flowers just as much. The note is the thing.

What funnyperson said about the note. So important: teachers treasure these things beyond any gift.

It's a good idea - and lasting (unlike chocolates or wine). However, I would check somehow first as one of our teachers enjoys doing the gardening at school but it's because she lives in a flat and doesn't have her own garden.

I did it one year, I put a petunia in a little ceramic pot. One teacher put it on her windowsill and we could see it as we walked past, it last for over a year! dd was very impressed that her little flower lasted so long.

I bought lavender plants one year as teacher presents (knew the teachers in question liked gardening!) - my thinking was most people like lavender.

I have bought them a gaura as I keep managing to kill lavender, and the slugs don't seem to like gaura either. And I think they're so pretty! And on offer at the garden centre....
