We want to grow some lavender in our garden. Does anyone know a good variety? It will be in an east facing garden. Would like something beautifully fragrant.

Oooh I am interested in the answer to this. I bought a mixed pack of six in the crocus sale seven years ago. The two French types succumbed to the first winter, one of the others has over long stalks, one is too pale, one has small dark flowers. But the final one is huge and thick and thriving with masses of large, intensely coloured flowers. Sadly I don't have a clue what it is called, but on the plus side, it has seeded around the garden.

Try Downderry:

Their website selector is very good (looks like what you are after), and their plants likewise (they come in lavender coloured pots too!). One of the plants I got died, and they replaced it no problem and quickly too.

Quite a contrast to the snotty fruit nursery I bought things from at the same time...
