Looking for plant watering tips.

Do you have any cheap tips on how to keep plants in pots and containers watered while we're away on holiday? We have older neighbours so don't want to bother them. Does anyone have some cheap and cheerful suggestions? TIA.

you could stand pots in a tray of water to try and keep them moist, but not sure there is much else you can do without puttiing in a watering system.
I normally come home to everything wilted.
