Tomato plants keep dying :(

I keep killing them

My tomato plants get to the blossom flowering stage but not the fruit setting stage. The flower withers and falls off and I never seem to get fruit. I water daily. I chop the lower branches. I don't get to the feeding of the tomorite stage as the tomato buds never come in.

Help.

Are they being pollinated?

FiloFunky · 23/06/2014 22:36

Get a small artist paint brush and tickle inside the flowers going from one to the next. Smile

Are they in a greenhouse? If so do you ventilate it? It sounds like the flowers are not being pollinated and so would not set fruit. I have a self opening window valve and open the door on hot days, so the through movement of air will encourage pollination, also allows pollinating insects in.

Use a spray bottle and spray/mist the flowers with water. Thats another way to pollinate the flowrrs if you haven't got a painters brush Smile

Its a bit of a ball-ache, but its worth it. Thats what I've been doing, and am the proud owner of 3 green cherry tomatoes.

Pollinate you say? That never occurred to me. And I have a B.Sc. With a strong component of Plant Science.

Indoor hothouse yes.

How are they planted up - Are they in pots or a gro-bag? If pots how big are they? I find if our greenhouse gets too hot then the plants just wither.

MrsJoeDolan · 24/06/2014 10:29

pots (reasonably big).
