Hello, could someone please tell me how often my outdoor tomato plants need to be watered and how much they need? They are in full sun all day. Also should I be soaking my planters - they are full of petunia and lobelia - or do they just need a little when the compost seems a bit dry ? They too are in full sun all day!

Thank you :) Tia

Tomatoes need water every day, and lots of it, although it is more important to make it regular than the quantity. Tomatoes with less water but regular will the more thick skinned and less juicy, but irregularly watered tomatoes will crack and split.

The plants in planters will probably be grateful for as much water as you are willing to throw their way too. Petunias can survive a bit of neglect, but will look a lot better if properly watered.

Thank you so much for that :) I have not given my tomatoes enough then that's for sure but I shall rectify that from today!

Thanks again, Tia

Just to add that the lower leaves on my tomato plants are yellowing - am I doing something wrong? Am I supposed to remove lower stems? Complete novice that's me!

I don't know, haven't had that. I don't remove the lower stems on tomatoes, only the side shoots of large ones.

I would be inclined to give them more water and see how it goes. The best way to learn is trial and error!
