Red currants

What else can I do with them apart from make red currant jelly?

My plant is huge now and over the years I've just let the birds eat them which I don't mind because I'm clueless as what to do with them?

Any ideas or just keep leaving them for the birds?

Clearly it is a leave them for the birds thing then isn't it.

Will try and post tomorrow if you want. I am going to pick mine tomorrow as they look ready now.

Redcurrant and orange jam is delicious. You can freeze them until you decide what to do with them so don't them go to the birds.

Mix with other summer fruits in a Summer Pudding.

Wow thank you Julie81

I like the idea of red currant vodka however I do not own a distillery Grin

you don't need one. Just a bottle of vodka, some sugar and some redcurrants

Put them in a pie or crumble with some other summer fruits or apples. Very yummy. I'm right in the middle of making a batch of jelly with mine right now it is tasting delicious.

The other thing you can do with them is dry them and then add them to fruit cakes. I expect a quick google would give you instructions for how to go about it.

They go well in Summer pudding, mixed with other soft fruit.

I feel your pain OP, we always have loads too, even after the birds have been at them, and the freezer's already crammed with last year's crop as well as the blackcurrant glut
