Rose in a pot, yey or ney?

I'm desperate to get a climbing rose up the back of our house. It's the perfect spot in terms of sunshine and space but I don't have anywhere to actually plant it into the ground where I'd like it.
Will it do well in a pot, good sized obviously.
Anyone had any success, I'm dubious?

I've got one in a half oak barrel & its doing well, needs to be fed & watered regular though.

I'm about to do this against the house where the possums can't get at it. I'm going for a big pot, preferably with a reservoir. Although it will face south, it's never dark there, and very sunny, though not directly. The bare-rooted ones are cheap, so I'm giving it a go.

It's called "Black Boy" Shock -a very dark red, scented climber, and bred in Australia, so should do well.

Right then, decision made. Thanks you two :)
