Fast growing bamboo

I've just cut down some rogue bamboo which was sprouting from an otherwise orderly bamboo screen. Just over 2 weeks ago I noticed some rather thicker canes emerging from the ground. In the sixteen days since they've grown to anything from 8 to 20 feet tall, spoiling the look. So I've just spent a very satisfying hour sawing the buggers down, then into smaller pieces and chucked the lot in the recycling. :)

Just hope they don't grow back.

'hope they don't grow back' er.... they will. Have you just moved house? Is it in your garden? We had a bamboo plant in the corner of a flower bed and after a few years I discovered spikes of it coming up through the lawn - proper sharp, pointy spikes. I also needed to give it a massive cut back a few times a year.

Since I cut our laurel back and found some bamboo at the back its more than quadrupled in size.

glad i saw this thread, dh is keen to plant some bamboo in our garden along a fenced area. think if we do, we need to put in some kind of root barrier to stop it spreading to the neighbours. or find a more socially acceptable plant!

nipersvest - plant clumping bamboo, though still not up to the fence.

Most of the stuff is uniform in height at about 6ft. The taller stems appear thicker than the standard stuff.

Depends what variety of bamboo it is. The height could be up to 35 ft in the UK.
I have a large clump of black bamboo and it is probably about 20 ft tall.
It is supposed to be clumping bamboo, but it is spreading - even through tarmac!
