Do I have to buy a male and a female plant to get berries and/or flowers ? Will they flower/fruit if I only have a male ?

Most of the varieties have male and female flowers on different plants so although both will flower on their own, you'll need one of each if you want berries.

Thank you WWB . Do they have to be planted next to each other or can they pollenate from a reasonable distance ?

They can be a fair way apart; I only have one, so does my neighbour, but they pollinate each other and both have berries.
