Caring for an apricot tree

The rental property we're in has a big greenhouse inhabited by a large and established apricot tree against one wall. It's sort of trained against the wall but has been sprouting long branches into the middle of the greenhouse and it's getting a bit out of hand. It now also has sticky stuff on the leaves which I'm not sure how to deal with.

I've looked up caring/pruning and none of it's very helpful so I was hoping that someone here might have an idiot's guide on what to do. Some sites say prune now, others later and some say just spray with water from the hosepipe to get rid of honeydew/aphids others recommend chemicals.

Help please!
