Whats the best way to clean a patio? Iv not got a pressure washer & patio is looking pretty grimy after the winter, is there some solution I need to buy of just disinfectant or something? TIA

Try a sprinkling of washing powder and then some water. Leave it for an hour then wash off. Power washers are brilliant but I note that you've not got one.

Try scrubbing it with a stiff yard brush. Some sort of detergent - even just washing up liquid - will help loosen the muck and any moss or lichen. I think you can use Jeyes fluid for the job if you've got stubborn stuff to shift - directions will be on the can.

I dunk the brush in the bucket of detergent and water or tip some on and then get brushing. I didn't make that clear at all.

We didn't have a pressure washer until last week! Saw a Karcher K2 offer on shopping channel Ideal World, for £150 including a host of 'extras'.

We are very impressed with it, small and compact but powerful enough for domestic stuff; my wife has got everything in the garden - paths, steps, pots etc - cleaner than it's been in thirty years!

Karcher is the way to go. And why? Because it's a verb:

I Karchered the drive
Google this.
Hoover the carpet.

Do keep it away from paintwork, e.g. window frames, as it'll strip them toot sweet.

Biological washing powder is the way to go. Something really strong like Bold or Daz. Wet patio with warmish water, sprinkle on, leave for an hour or two, scrub with a stiff brush and hose down with clean water.
