How and where to plant an olive tree?

We just bought an olive tree and wondered if someone could give some tips on how to plant and look after it. Many thanks.

How far north/south are you? Rural or urban? How sheltered is your garden?

Thanks for your response. We live in the centre of the city in southern England. We have a small front garden and a back garden,which are not sheltered. The back of the house faces south west.
