New to gardening but attempting to grow some fruit and veg. I have already got potatoes growing but what else vegetable wise can I grow that wont hinder or affect it?

It depends on how much space you have between your potatoes - potatoes spread out quite a bit when they grown - probably about a foot square of more of quite heavy foliage. So really you might not have room. You could try 'catch cropping' (google) where you grow a fast growing crop like rocket, radish or lettuce between slower growing crops. You could plant them round the edge?

Sounds like a good idea. I do have a fair bit of room. I already have what I think is raspberries growing in the opposite side. (Not 100% as we've recently moved here and it was growing already.)

I've got strawberries as well. Possibly rhubarb.

It's quite exciting when you take over a new garden - you have to give it a year to make sure you don't pitch anything by mistake! Good luck.

preferably not tomatoes as they share the same pests and diseases.

lettuces are handy, as they grow fast, and you can pick them before the potato plants get big and overwhelm them.

I would say a potato plant is more a square yard than a square foot.

Thanks. Good to know about the tomatoes. Will definitely be trying lettuce as dd loves it anyway.
