So how would you put up wire support for climbers against a wall?

I bought the vine eyes.

I bought the wire.

I imagined horizontal lines across the wall about 8-12" apart.

DH didn't use the vine eyes (nails instead into either pre-existing holes or randomly) and wound the wire round any old way - think vertically/diagonally and horizontally.

Should I take it out and do it properly myself?

The plants won't care a jot.

Making him do it again because he hasn't done it the way you wanted/expected/told him is an entirely different thread.

Hmmm.

Oh well, if the plants will still climb, I guess it's OK. But what if the wire is just too close to the wall?

Depends on the relationship.
Vine eyes and horizontal wire look good.

Hehe, I knew it would be you, BTM.Grin

I'd have to do it again properly.

Or buy something really fast growing to cover up his ineptitude.

I arranged an artful coat hanger or two to help the clematis viticella abundance along yesterday. I'm too lazy to get the drill out and put up vine eyes and horizontal wire at 8-12 in spacing.
Perhaps when I go shopping tomorrow for the curtain hooks to put up the curtains (yes, that bad) I'll be inspired to get some vine eyes too.

We have a very happy clematis montana scrambling up a similarly haphazard arrangement of wires and old nails and the odd vine eye actually put there by us. It's been there 8 years or so and is massive now if that helps.
