Why don't wild flowers/weeds survive once picked?

I hate gardening, but I have a flower question...

Why don't wild flowers/ weeds survive once picked like posh flowers do?

There are loads of dandelions about, they'd look great in a vase, but, they'd be a limp mess within 4 hours. Why?

Some do. The flowers we know as "cut flowers" have become so because they last well in a vase, or they have been bred to do so.

Because they miss their friends?

Pining for the fjords?

Annoying, I know. I often pick wild flowers with DS and they don't last long.

Ha ha, good answers, but not as scientific as I was hoping. Let's just put it down to the mystical wonders o' nature.
