Flowers alongside herbs

Hello, I've just moved into my first house with a garden so I'm new at this gardening lark! I have a long wooden planter against a sunny wall which I'd like to use to grow some herbs. From doing a search of past threads here, I'm thinking of a bay tree, some rosemary, thyme, sage, mint, oregano and maybe parsley. I am also considering putting some flowers in there to break up the 'green', and was wondering if there are any particular flowers that grow well alongside herbs in a planter? I was thinking of lavender but also something 'lower' to the ground iyswim.

Lavender is great and marigolds are lovely too.
Nasturtiums will trail down and you can eat all parts of them - just grab a packet of seeds from the garden centre and pop them in this month.

I dot violas amongst all my herbs. They are small, not fussy and cheap- grow from seed or pick up as plug plants. You can eat them too, or put them in ice cubes.

Put the mint in its own container, or it will take over the entire bed.
Consider whether you want annuals or perennials (flowers) in the bed and avoid anything toxic, just in case.
Do you have a colour scheme in mind?

Thanks I will look into nasturtiums, marigolds & violas! No particular colour scheme in mind, I'd prefer perennials (now that I've googled what they are!) to something that I'd have to keep replacing.
