Another question about screening

What can I put in planters to screen and soundproof on the side of my decked area. My7 neighbours, whilst amiable enough, sit out on their patio and I can hear their conversation so am convinced they can hear mine. At the moment, I have some bamboo screening pinned to the patching fence. which helps, but would like something more attractive and more effective. I was thinking about some bamboo in planters, but what kind of planters and which bamboo? Is there anything else I could use?
TIA

I have bamboo in half barrels and it's a good visual screen but not for sound. You'd need something much more dense like hedging plants kept well trimmed and thick. Like cubes side by side rather than a .'thin' hedge iyswim. I'd also put a solid barrier behind them and in front of the existing bamboo screen you have. Somthing like sheets of extetior plywood but painted a nice colour.

Mask sound by having a water feature on your decking that's noisy. More a horse pissing in a pond than a gentle tinkle.
