Pine cones! Can I reuse them?!

Hi all. Our back garden is overlooked by a huge tree which constantly drops pine cones everywhere. Rather than throw them away or let them get chopped/mangled by the lawn mower, is there anything useful I can do with them?

I spray the nicer ones gold and use them as Christmas deco.

We use them as fire starters, they burn well.
