Climber for east facing wall?

I really need to put something in to climb up our front wall - it is so boring, but what?

I was thinking about a climbing rose but then it will be bare in winter won't it? I'm a bit scared of other plants as I have read things about brickwork being eaten away by roots.

Can anyone recommend something please?

me too mrsvern - have a beautiful south/west facing garden - (more south than west!!) with about 90 feet of bare fence of east'ish facing fence.

i've got a virginia creeper which grows fast and turns red in late summer/autumn it grows fast and looks nice, but it could take over a wall. mine's still quite small though.

Roses won't do well on east facing wall... they like full sun. A climbing hydranga is what you need.

I agree - hydrangea petiolaris. Once established, you get lovely sprays of creamy white flowers. The leaves drop off if it's cold but I can't think of many evergreen options - a variegated ivy maybe.
What you don't want is anything with delicate foliage because early morning sun on dew or frost can burn the leaves.
