Does Rattan Garden Furniture last?

Slightly random question, but I'd like to buy some and DH not keen. More than UV/weather resistance, my DH is concerned that dirt will get between the glass top most of the rattan tables have and will look awful. Is this worry justified? or is he just being awkward?

Not really noticed the dirt under glass top issue, but natural rattan will need protection similar to wooden garden furniture, and will rot eventually.

I have learnt from past mistakes and would always choose metal furniture now.

Do you mean that plastic rattan stuff? If so, we don't have anything with glass on top, but do have a couple of chairs. They're about 3 years old and holding up very well, much better than wood or metal we've had in the past.

We have synthetic rattan garden furniture that will never rot or fade. It is fully weather resistant and looks brand new year after year even without it being covered. If it gets dirty you can power wash it in the spring and it will look good as new. The glass top on our cube is smoked so even though the rattan runs underneath to support the glass you cant see the rattan through the glass. The glass can be removed to clean underneath if wanted. So I think the answer to your question is to buy a table with a smoked glass top so that you cant see the rattan underneath. Hope this helps. Our cube set is from Zebrano Rattan.
