What now for our hyacinth?

DD came home from playgroup at Christmas with a hyacinth bulb. I did far better this year, because this year I actually watered it and, lo and behold, a lovely pink spray of flowers opened. (Just at the right pace for a 3yo - there were more open every time we looked at it!)

Now the flowers are dying and it looks a bit sad on the kitchen windowsill... so what do I do now? Will it ever flower again? Would it survive if I planted it in the garden? Or is that it for the plant, really?

it you put it in the garden it might survive and flower again next year. Or not, but DD will have forgotten all about it by then. Chop off the flower when it's dead and plant it at 3x its own depth (i.e. if you stacked two more on top of the planted one then the top of the top one would be at ground level). If you do put it out think hard about where to put it as you don't want it to look like last year's lonely playgroup hyacinth that just got plonked out any old where.
