Hi Emily05. It's quite normal for worms to try and escape during the first few days of setting up a wormery. A good tip is to have a light on, as they try to get away from the light. If it's outside do you have a patio light or something that you can leave on overnight?

The other thing is to make sure they have enough bedding...you could add some damp shredded newpaper as they LOVE that. as well as some scraps...anything to convince them that it's much nicer being inside tand there's no need to escape!

Have just realised though that it's been about a week since you posted this...how has it been?

One thing to remember with all wormeries though is DO NOT OVERFEED!! The concequences can be quite horrific It will take a little while to get the worms working at top speed so go slow and just feed as much as they can eat, which won't be much to begin with. And add lots of shredded newspaper to help stop it getting too wet. Good luck!

Mine tried to escape for about a week; then i fed them too much; now I think I have them settled!

pmsl. Sorry.

Your lack of concern for my worms' welfare makes me .
What kind of heartless woman are you?

theinvisiblegirl · 07/08/2006 19:13

shazronnie, only those who do not have worms could be so heartless! Only us 'good' people can see the benefits of worming and get so attached to those little squiggly wiggly things......
(ok, I admit, maybe a little too attached to them. Think a little visit to my shrink...)
