Strawberries...only ripe one or two at a time

DD has a strawberry plant in one of those huge planters, but they are only ripening one at a time. My mum planted them and does so most years, but she had to fly off to canada to care for sick relative and i dont want to bother her to ask how to make strawberries ripen together! Please can someone help? Will they come in drips and drabs the whole time, or will we suddenly get a load at once? Had a quick check this morning and theres about 50 yellow strawberries at mo and one fully ripe one!

My Mother in Law has a strawberry plant and I was laughing at her telling me exactly the same thing. She only gets one strawberry a day but a new ripe one is always there every morning. If she can shed any light on it I'll let you know.
