Why are my strawberries small?

I have got quite a good crop of strawberries this time. But they are generally quite small, although tasty. What would the reasons for this be?

I have thought of the the following:
Old plants (but some are new ones grown from suckers)
Lack of water (didn't really water them at all until recently but we are in Yorkshire)
Lack of food (have never fertilised them).

Which is it? Or something different?

Could they just be a small variety?

Otherwise I would guess at lack of fertiliser.

No idea what variety they are. I picked up a few at the garden centre a couple of years back and they have spread as they do.
