creating privacy in front garden

I'm looking for advice on how to create more privacy in my front garden. I made the mistake of paving the lot a few years ago. I live on quite a busy village road and now feel quite exposed to all the passing traffic and pedestrians. I have a wall at the front with a very small border. Is it possible to create extra borders on top of the paving or would I need to completely redo the front garden?

Could you attach a trellis to the wall? There are some climbers that would be happy in a container.

Well you can use the wood fence or iron fence on that wall. It will help you to improve your garden privacy. You need to hire a contractor who do all this work.

Just be careful about planning permission. If the trellis and wall when added together are over 1m high and between the house and the road you will need apply for it.

Would it be too difficult to remove some of the paving near the wall, to plant shrubs? My front garden is now private, with fewer noises and smells from traffic since allowing shrubs to grow.

I was going to suggest adding a trellis on top of the wall, and growing some honeysuckle, clematis, roses etc through it. Good point about the height restrictions, though, depends how far back you are from the road, though, doesn't it?

I think it would be great to remove some of the paving and add in butterfly friendly plants such as honeysuckle and so forth. `The type of plants you plant will probably depend on the type of your soil and whether the aspect is sunny, shady, north or south facing, wet or dry.
