Holiday + patio containers = dead plants?

Just realized, since we moved we have no-one to water our patio pots when we go away. Could ask neighbours but don't want to impose, don;t know them that well.

Is there any way I can keep them going for 5-6 days?

You could buy an irrigation system like my mum did! Lots of little tubes which drip water into the pots! It probably wasn't cheap, mind.

Thanks HD, but no time (or cash!) for buying anything fancy, holiday is imminent!

Although a heath robinson version would do if anyone has any bright ideas?

Try the neighbours - might be a way to get to know them?

JanH · 24/06/2006 20:19

You could move them all into the shadiest spot you have and stand them in something shallow with water in?

I like HD's idea though

I do what janh does

and get neighbours/friends to pop in

If they are big pots you can use small plastic bottles. Fill with water, put lid on tightly. Make a few pinprick holes in one side and lay that side down in pot. The water will drain through slowly into the soil.

I've got an irrigation system. Which I won't be able to use this year because of the hosepipe ban. Bah!

FrayedKnot · 24/06/2006 20:23

The thing is, I do sort of know the neighbours but they are a bit of a pita at times so i don;t want to get to know them any better iyswim.

Other side of the road is nicer though so may try her tomorrow!

Do you have a friend locally who could drop by every other day?

Gingerbear · 24/06/2006 20:30

Put them in the bath?

FrayedKnot · 24/06/2006 20:30

No JanH, that's my problem, we moved 10 months ago but I still seem to be at the passing aquaintance stage with everyone, except workmates, but none of them live nearby.

Will see if I can rig something up with trays & bottles, our garage is full of rubbish that DH promised would come in useful one day.

If that fails will ask over-the-road lady.

Thanks for you ideas

Update and TOP TIP...!

I put them all in DS paddling pool, in a shady place, watered them very thoroughly and filled it with small amount of water.

They all survived, despite the heat.

Excellent, FrayedKnot! Did you have a good holiday?

FrayedKnot · 01/07/2006 21:13

Yes thank you HD, and the weather was great

Great news, FK - glad they all survived (some of mine haven't and I have been here - I just forgot )
