Easy seeds to grow for children

Hi. I am a complete novice with gardening etc.

My DC are having a birthday party soon (late August) and instead of tatty bags full of rubbish I want to give them a little plant pot each with some seeds to grow something.

Does anyone have any recommendations for seeds that are easy to grow and hard to kill for me to give with the pots?

Thanks in advance!

Huffpot, lots of the seed suppliers do special children's seed packs with easy to grow, bright things in them. Suttons also do seeds with a theme, like gourds that grow into bottle shapes you can paint! I think they also do loofah plants.

Any reasonable garden centre will stock them.

I think it's a lovely idea :)

Runner beans! They grow like mad in a couple of days so instant appeal for the kids.

See, I would normally have said runner beans but I couldn't get any kind of beans to germinate this year so I no longer think they are that easy!

I think that sunflowers are really easy, and good fun. Cress is also very, very easy.

Runner beans are great because you can start them off in a glass jar with damp kitchen roll and it is amazing to watch the sprouting.

We do sunflowers every year, they are great and I think they are easy, and DS loves seeing how tall they get and waiting for the flowers to appear.

Not a good time of year for outdoor planting. So do grass heads. Pack of 10 pop socks from asda, bag of sawdust, packet of grass seeds. Tablespoon of grass seeds into pop sock, then fill with sawdust. Rubber bands to make nose. Kids do face with sharpie. We sit them in a mug of water so they don't tip over. When the grass grows you can cut it and style it.

Thats a great idea trice but I already bought the pots.
I think sunflowers or beans will be the way to go!

Thank you all Thanks
