Hi all,

I have a lovely size back garden that has an awful lot of weeds in the borders, more so than plants.

I have been nosing online to see the best way of getting rid of them because they just don't seem to go away. I have read somewhere that white vinegar will do the trick. Has anyone had any experience of this? I want to put decking where the worst of it is but can't do so until I get rid of the weeds.

Weeds are many and varied. Where you want to put decking just put membrane down over the weeds then the decking over that. I necessary spray with a weed killer like Pathclear that promises to stop weeds coming back.

Where you want flowers you need to dig the weeds up, roots and all, then plant fairly quickly so the plants crowd out the weeds. But you will still have to weed out the weeds.

Did up as much as you can. Weeds keep coming- basic rule of gardening! You dig them out then 2 days later they are back.

Then buy some weedkiller and put it down where the decking goes. You will need as purple says, to put a membrane down before you lay the decking. This will help smother the weeds but any that do come can be given a quick spray of something like weedkiller for patios.

Weed every week in spring and summer to stop it all getting out of hand, and plant ground cover plants that take up space and suppress the nasty weeds!

Thanks ladies. I will give the membrane a go under the decking.

Looks like I will be roping the kids in to help me!
