Container / pot planting

Hi,

I am hoping that you greenfingered people will be able to advise. I have a large pot / container by my front door. While we have been away the plants in there have died. I would really like to plant something colourful in there now. I usually have some greenery with the usual pansies, etc. Is it too early to be able to buy and plant winter pansies, etc? If so what could I do in the meantime?

Thank you

Too early for winter pansies but many garden centre will be selling their summer bedding cheaply now. How about something like a standard rose with geraniums, petunias and felicia around the bottom?
