What on earth is this??

Hi. My sister moved into a new house and went exploring in the garden. Found an interesting plant. Have posted on my profile (sorry the pictures are side on, don't crook your neck!). It's about 2ft high and has an interesting head. It's finished flowering now but you can see where the petals were. Any advice gratefully received, I've asked a few intrepid gardeners and they're equally stumped Confused

I don't recognise it, but if you google for 'plant id key' you will find some where you answer a series of questions and it tells you possible answers!
