Has anyone ever had a big tree removed?

I have a tree in my garden, it's a Christmas tree type (no gardening knowledge at all Blush)
I would like to remove it, would I need a tree surgeon? It's about 20ft tall and its not climbable. Any idea roughly how much it would cost to take it to the stump?

We had a large conifer (roughly 25ft) removed by a tree surgeon about 5 years ago. It cost £250 including the disposal and having the stump ground.

Yes, you will need a tree surgeon. You may need to get permission from your local council first, if you are in a conservation area or if the tree has a preservation order on it. Your tree surgeon will be able to advise.

Yes, I got a tree surgeon a few years ago and it cost £200 including removal of stump. That's a Midlands price btw. It may be more expensive down south or in more afluent areas.

Definitely use a tree surgeon. We had to have about 7 of those b*^%#}{s removed a few years ago. It cost a fortune, but it really isn't safe to do yourself. Check your insurance too.
