Harvesting strawberries?

I would be really grateful for some strawberry advice!
I have a few ripening strawberries. They have just turned red.
When should I pick them?
Do they ripen fully on the plant, or will they continue to ripen if I pick them and leave them a few days before eating?
Sorry for such a basic question!
I'm afraid to pick them in case they are still too raw, but I don't want any other creature nabbing them either!

Pick them as soon as they are fully red. Unless you feel the local blackbird population is underfed Wink

Generally if I'm not sure if something is ripe I just pick one and try it. Strawberries should be ripe when picked and don't last long off the plant.

Strawberries do not ripen off the plant.
In my garden, the only way to get ripe strawberries is to put netting over the plants. We have entirely too many strawberry loving blackbirds!

Thanks for the good advice! Will go do a taste test!
