Easy garden with small kids

I live abroad. We moved into a new rented house this winter and were excited to have a garden at last.

However the snow has melted and its just a weed infested mess. I don't know where to start.

It's covered in grass but not evenly. We have lots of dandelions and things that look like waist high daisies. There are a lot of shrubs in the corners.

We don't have a mower so I'm not sure how to cut the grass. There are a lot of small stumps from where some old shrubs were cut down.

It's not a huge garden and we can't afford to spend a lot in it but it would be great to having it look a bit nicer.

Any ideas where to start?

Get a mower and start mowing. Don't worry what grass you have. If it's green, it's a lawn! Kids don't judge you on your lawn not being immaculate.

As for the shrubs. Just trim it back and deal with it later .
