Attractive climbers for shady garden

I'd appreciate advice on any climbers that we could grow up a fence on a very shady side of our garden. I'm hoping for something that isn't ivy but haven't found many solutions. I have a honeysuckle but it hasn't thrived and have a big gap of bare fence I would like to cover.

is this any help? from the RHS? I always find them quite a useful reference point as a starter before heading to the garden centre...

Some clematis are suitable for shade.
Bees Jubilee, Andromeda and
Carnaby all will do well growing on a shady fence.

Hydrangea petiolaris, as mentioned by the RHS, does very well in shade. I can vouch for this, having grown it in the UK.

echt, maybe you can tell me why mine is still doing nothing, almost four years after planting? I was told it would shoot up and start flowering after 2 but it's still a bit rubbish tbh.

It took mine three years to really get going. Try feeding it?

Depends what kind of shade. is it dappled shade? Is it shady in summer when tree leaves come out but actually gets light in the spring? Is it damp shade or dry shade?

Anyway the following are rampant on the north facing shady fence under an oak tree in my garden: winter jasmine; summer jasmine; Rose New Dawn; Rose American Pillar;Honeysuckle common or garden variety; Hydrangea Petiolaris has gone in this spring; Rose Paul's Himalayan Musk is going in; Next spring I will experiment with a Clematis Montana. Mahonia can grow as a climber, and though text books and websites say it likes sun, it can also do fine in shade. Hope this helps.

Good point about the light. Although mine was on a north-facing fence, there was lots of ambient light which probably helped.
