Veg or flowers for shade?

I've just cleared a moss and weed infested area (about 1.5m square) in our tiny garden and want to plant something there. It is shaded by a huge ivy growing all over the fence behind it. I was wondering whether a raised bed might be a good idea as we have very heavy clay soil. Alternatively i'd love some bright flowers but not sure they'll grow. Any advice?

A raised bed would be good.
As for plants I have pulimonaria, ferns and hellebores in my shady strip. True geraniums are also good- I have four different types. I am also plannig on getting pansies and wallflowers as well.
Hope this helps.

Pulmonaria are fabulous for shady areas - really pretty little flowers in blue, white and pink shades and interesting mottled leaves to give interest when the flowering season is over.
