Patio or artificial grass for playing football on?

Currently have quite a big garden but only a small raised patio. I am trying to make a plan as we finally have some money to make improvements. Not sure whether to make a bigger patio or another patio or whether to lay an area of artificial grass. It is mostly mud lawn out there at the moment. I can make this area out of view of the living room/kitchen so aesthetics not quite so important?

I wouldn't go for patio if it was for playing ball games on as the thud thud thud of the ball would drive me insane.
