Going with Rhihaf's thread name suggestion, following on from the first rule of gardening club is thread.

Pull up your kneeling pads, crack open the elderberry wine and the blackberry gin and come and join us. No real experience or gardening know-how needed.

::snort:: at Wynken's DH.

Poor Monty getting the blame for everything.

Blackpuddingbertha · 12/04/2013 17:38

I'm back in. A little damp but my fetching outfit of pink waterproof coat and DH's waterproof trousers (not pink) did the job of keeping most of the water out. I now have some beetroot, perpetual spinach and salsify sown outside, oca in pots in the conservatory, and more cucumber, courgettes, & weird gourd things for the DDs upstairs in the 'hot' germination zone.

Will be tuning in to Monty, the weather God, tonight - still have't caught up on last week's GW so am determined not to miss tonight's.

Got my once a week Friday night Wine well that's what I tell my midwife

Ooh Wisley!

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 12/04/2013 20:39

I can't get that BBC 2 live thing to work, it just showed a shot of Monty at the start then crashed. DH is ignoring my hints to go and get Wine out of the car.

Blackpuddingbertha · 12/04/2013 20:41

Why is your Wine in your car?

Potting shed too full of gin?

LexyMa · 12/04/2013 20:46

Can the public get those RHS gilets (a la wildflower chappie)? I would love one...

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 12/04/2013 20:48

I wish, gin would go down so well right now ! We forgot to take the wine out when we got back from holiday last week. Should be nicely chilled!

Blackpuddingbertha · 12/04/2013 20:49

I'd settle for the wildflower chappie, with or without gillet Smile

Bertha!!! Quite agree though.

Blackpuddingbertha · 12/04/2013 21:02

Yes well...more Wineanyone?

Discovered a little carpet of naturalised chionodoxa the other side of the fence this afternoon. Very pretty. Would anyone like to explain why the rabbits squeeze under the fence to eat mine but leave all the easy pickings alone?

I have real wine, it fell down the back of the seat but got it in the end. Just need GW to go onto iplayer now. Was it good ?

Rabbits are evil and eat veg at the allotment. They go for the things you value, they aren't as cute as everyone supposes - it says so on the Buffy musical episode so must be true.

Blackpuddingbertha · 12/04/2013 21:15

They (the rabbits) can't get in my veg plot. They also now don't really come into the back garden because of the puppy. I think they are having parties in my long bed in the front garden though. Possibly as revenge...

Why was your wine down the back of the seat?

Hello everyone have you had a good week?
Humphrey does this mean that the pig wasn't expecting piglets after all?
Yes to photos

Well I have my RHS wildflower seeds. They came in the post. The neighbours have agreed to them being sown in an area of common land where the hawthorn grows. This is real progress as last year I was asked not to do anything that would make the land 'too attractive' [sceptical]. Having watched young men in green on Gardeners World I now know how to sow them, and how to generate a fine tilth, but am still slightly mystified as to whether it is still too early. Oh well, they're going in tomorrow whatever as I won't have time during the week.

I've given in to Sarah Raven and bought the Venetian dahlia collection, even though squirrels ate most of the bulbs last year and slugs ate any plants which grew. I also bought more astrantia 'shaggy' online even though slugs got them last year.

The lotus seeds also came in the post. I am reading up everything I can find about how best to germinate them.

Compost has gone into the veg trough and courgette, salad, spinach, chives, dill, fennel, seeds have been sown and the squash seedlings have gone in and they'll just have to do outdoors because the DC aren't into watering seedlings inside. They've got exams the poor things. So glad I'm not a student.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 12/04/2013 21:45

It fell down there I think, it started off in the boot. There's rabbit fencing 3 sides of our allotments. They seemed to think rabbits would ignore the holes in the hedge of the remaining side, walk it the other three sides, see the wire and give up graciously.

funnyperson · 12/04/2013 21:46

I laugh whenever people talk about the mid life crisis. Teenage angst lasted well into the thirties for me and it is wonderful being ancient. Relatively speaking that is. Not a crisis at all. Tangent. Sorry.

funnyperson · 12/04/2013 21:47

What fell down where?

Blackpuddingbertha · 12/04/2013 21:48

Virtual piglet for Humph (& anyone else partial to piglets).

Have you sown everything outside funny?

OP posts:
Blackpuddingbertha · 12/04/2013 21:49

Wynken's car wine fell down

OP posts:
funnyperson · 12/04/2013 21:51

Well yes I have now sown all the veg (well bearing in mind this is my first year of sowing anything but tomatoes) in the veg trough outside. This is because for practical reasons there is no way anything is going to get watered indoors this next week as I am working under NHS neon lighting again for a while.
The cosmos and delphiniums havent gone into the ground yet but have been potted on and put outside as it is lovely gentle April rain.

funnyperson · 12/04/2013 21:54

Have also given in and bought Pauls Himalayan Musk rose.

funnyperson · 12/04/2013 21:55

I might be very techy and get a cloche for the trough

Blackpuddingbertha · 12/04/2013 21:58

I would cloche if possible
