Rose pruning advice please!

We've just bought a house with loads of roses in the front and back gardens, which is lovely - we intend to keep them and I'm hoping to nurture rather than murder them. I've no idea what type/s of rose they are.

The house has been empty for a few months and all the roses have bloomed and are now looking very sorry for themselves - pruning is clearly needed, but I'm not sure when I should do it (I'd like to tidy up them now if poss) and how - where do I cut?

All advice much appreciated, thanks!
